What are the top applications you use?

I've got MSN Live Messenger and Putty (an SSH terminal for unix servers) installed.

Will be adding Opera Mobile and a good RSS reader.

Any other must have apps?

Don't know anyone who uses Skype and I'm not much of a talk on the phone person -- prefer email / text / IM.

KIA, it is a good thing that you brought up this topic.

I am still stuck with a Nokia 6600. The problem I have is that every time I test or send programs to someone with a new nokia they just don't work. Also most of the software particularly the open source only work for the S60. Also the joystick on the 6600 is the best of any of Nokia's Symbian phones that I can find so far.

Even with the slow 104Mhz CPU it has better disk throughput than many of the newer phones.

To answer you question.

Profiexplorer is the best file manager. Or Seven Mail.
3. Sysinfo60 allows you to snoop the Cell ID info get a lot more info about what the phone is doing.
4. Smart settings "Gives your phone a MS Windows style start button" for some reason it makes my phone run faster.
5. Handyclock to check what time is any city before you phone.
6. Philips Cam recorder (allows me to take upto 2 hours of video on my phone)
7. OggPlay, Ogg/Mp3 player. Brilliant playlist management.
8. Agilemessanger, ICQ, MSN etc..
9. Hview (Hex viewer),
10, SeleQ, FileExploers (both crap compared to Profiexplorer)
11. IPCalc, Nokia Sensor,
12. Advance Call manager (must have)
13. Where am I (location based service using CellID), or Cellspotting.
14. Message storer to convert my sms to text file for archiving.
15. Call record. Records all yoru calls.
16, lookup - find names by the number.
17. LCD Radio Jukebox (just expired), for internet radio streaming and MP3 playing. Has a great graphic equalizer and makes a crappy Nokia sound half decent.
18. Games: Frozen Buugle, Bounce, Space impact (play via blue tooth with a buddy), DopeWars (UK), Rally Pro, Puzzle Bobble, Wolfenstein 3D (ported from PC). Brotheris in Arms (amazing 3rd vector rendering), lots more.
19. ssh, VNC (not installed).
20. ScumVM, scum virtual machine to play Lucas arts games.

If anyone find their nokia slow use the default theme and just change the background screen to a picture you like.
If your phone is like a dog, it seems that when the symbian SMS/mail storage database gets corrupted the whole phone runs like a dog. Archive your sms regularly.

Give what I have setup on my phone can someone tell me what I should upgrade to?

I am actually becoming pretty addicted to the E61. Awesome keyboard and after the OS upgrade to version 3.x the apps are fast.

So far the only problem I have is that the Email client disconnects when the signal is lost and does not automatically reconnect. I think I might have found a workaround with a setting ...

The E61 does not have a camera .. so no issues with video / photos.

I gotta find that Where Am I app. Sounds pretty cool ... did I share my idea of three dimensional search engines with you?

E61i has camera. Throw yours away. It is out of date.

What email client are you using? IMAP or POP3?

There where am I is particularly useful when you are travelling around in a foreign city and the taxi driver is trying to take you for a round and round drive to clock up the bill. I like in Thailand where the Cells give you the name of where you are and you don't have to use this software.

Actually the where am I can switch profiles and send SMSs when you enter a specific zone. Eg. You getting close to home, it can switch your phone to silence all your customer (Group) calls and also sms the wife and tell her it is time to get your cigar and slippers out.

Or can leave it setup so when you go to lan kwai fong it automatically sms's the wife telling her you MAY be late.

This Where Am I thingy sounds cool. Gotta get it ..

Also saw a neat little AP which will SMS a second phone number with cell / phone details if the SIM is changed (i.e. phone is lost / stolen). Forgot what it is called....

Using IMAP .. works really well.

This the problem with all the 3rd version S60 phones.

cellspotting is a bit clunky. It works on getting the cell ID and the redirecting you a web site where it gives you information about the cell.

If no one has provided the details you can enter them also.

WhereamI is far nicer. It would be good if where am I periodically uploaded your database and shared it with other users and you don't have to do all the input yourself.

I would also like it to be able to log the cell changes you go through and map them. I think there is another program that does that and allows you trace your steps, or something. When I tried it it didn't work.

I think there is apache also for S60... in case you want to run a web site on your phone. :-)

Look on freshmeat and sourceforge for s60 or symbian apps.
