I'm sure this has been answered somewhere on the millions of posts here but I honestly don't have time to go through them.

I just got an iphone 4s here in Hong Kong through my Landlord who I think got it through the carrier 3.

How can I do a few things...

Make sure it can be used in USA... I heard the SIMS card is different and it can't be used there.. is this true?
Do I need to jailbreak and unlock it as well and where can I do this? Thanks!

iPhones sold legitimately in Hong Kong are already unlocked. Jailbreaking lets you use non-Apple app store apps.

Don't know about the SIM card off hand.

Sim card is the same. My friend was here and brought his 4s from the states and bought a temporary sim card. He had no problems while he was here.

iPhone 4s is MicroSim, most phones/phone card sellers in the US uses sells standard Sim, but bigger name companies like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile sells both MicroSim cards/Sim cards.

HK phones are unlocked already, just plug in a MicroSim to use in USA. So if you have a friend giving you an old Sim card to use, it's most likely most not micro.

It's just related to my landlord because he is the one that got my phone. It's signed in his name and we're just paying him. He got a decent deal for us. I was just mentioning I didn't myself go get the phone so I didn't ask any questions and wasn't sure about all the info.
