Possible end of cheap New World Mobility plans

I know quite a few people here are on the cheap NWM plans. You may want to note this:

    PCCW

"HKT (SEHK: 6823) and TDHL (SEHK: 8336) have jointly unveiled a new mobile service brand – SUN Mobile - which is committed to providing customers with quality and affordable mobile services.

SUN Mobile promises to be a stronger successor of New World Mobility, which was operated by CSL New World Mobility Limited (now known as CSL Mobile Limited) prior to HKT’s acquisition."

首 頁 - SUN Mobile [seems to be Chinese only].

    Further information here:

HKT launches SUN Mobile to replace New World Mobility budget brand

"As reported by Hong Kong newspaper The Standard, Arena said there will be minor adjustments in pricing from the now defunct New World Mobility"

"On the other hand, he hinted the brand’s pricing would be marked up to some extent, citing value added services (VAS), inflation and higher spectrum charges imposed by the government. Telecom Digital chairman and Sun Mobile director Alex Cheung added that administration charges will be raised."

" New World’s previous unlimited web surfing package is likely to be cancelled, as the Sun Mobile management believes it is ‘unsustainable’, the report noted."

From a quick read of the new website, seems the capped speed plan still exists but the price has gone up.

Just checked, that seems to be across the entire HKT / CSL network, shit.

It also seems in general their prices have gone up across the board for subscriptions as well. No surprises there really, esp as they are now the dominant player.

Yep, PCCW/CSL just released new tariff plans, which of course are more expensive than before.

After NWM becomes part of the Li conglomerate and naturally yanks up rates, what lower speed unlimited offerings are left in this freest of markets?

    PRC's China Mobile?

The Kwok's (SHK) SmarTone (but no tethering)?

The last non-establishment (and incidentally foreign) player to shake up the cozy circle was probably Sunday (before being bought out by PCCW) and that seems like a generation ago.

What happens if some punter says that they don't want to pay the MTR / Tunnel fee?
