Why on earth would you want to.do that?

Why not just pick up a taxi or hire car at the border?

very few hk cars are allowed across. You will pay thru the nose for such a service.

Don't listen to M07, she is part of the anti-car brigade here. Cross Border Limousines Try them....if you google cross border limousines hong kong you'll get a lot of hits.

Expect to pay between 1200-1800 dollars one way to Shenzhen in an Alphard. Obviously if there's several of you it's very reasonable.

1.) It's more comfortable, it's more convenient, it's more practical, he wants to

2.) Very few HK cars can cross? Only a non-driver would say that, why would you actually say that M07? Cross border plates are everywhere, just nonsense..

3.) He can afford it! Anyway, if you have four or five people...

If for a week in Shenzhen, it won't be cheap.

Bryant... glad to see you're settling into your 'swanky apartment with a maid' mentality

Yep, but I guess most people who want a driver for a week don't expect it to be cheap.....and he didn't ask for random opinions about people's view on the value of private hire did he? No, he asked for pointers to reliable cross border services...

Seriously, within a year I will have cross-border plates.

Actually, I went and had a meeting with Harni, my helper, this morning and it got me thinking what a wonderful place Hong Kong is after all.

Also reminds me of a conversation I had with another expat last week. We were agreeing that actually the relative quality of life in Hong Kong is poorer than in most of our home countries....it is our relative wealth that makes it good for us. I have really decided to push now very hard for the Hong Kong dream and lifestyle and to totally insulate myself and my family from the smog, queues, toenail picking, elbow jostling reality of lower class HK.

There was another thread about convertibles and I did a bit of a check while driving to Tai Po this morning and it's true, lots of Gweilo driving convertibles, if we couldn't do these things we wouldn't live here!

The high salaries, the maids, the cars, these things are in exchange for the humidity, the pollution, the shit service in restaurants, WWAAAIIIIIIIIII, and so on......I'm grabbing mine with both hands, it's great!

My point, which Bryant thoughtfully ignores, is that the H K to shenzhen part of the journey is about an hour (total of both directions) out of a week of hire! A local Chinese service is bound to be cheaper than a luxury hk service and the "inconvenience" lasts about the time it takes to walk 100m (if you cross at shenzhen bay port for example).
