    Tai Po KCR

Hey all, just thought i'd pitch in with the thread.

Had been doing the same as everyone else and ended up at Tai Po KCR. There's a salon on the 1st floor next to the japanese home store. The senior stylist there speaks good english and seems to understand a little more than he can speak.

Got ionic straightening and a cut for $450. I'm really pleased, don't think they could have done any better back home!

I've been doing the same, searching all these posts trying to find a decent place to straighten my hair. Tai Po is a little too far for me, does anyone know a good CHEAP place closer to the island?

Of the people that have gotten it done here, is your hair "Asian"? Mine is "European" - thinner and quite curly - and I'm wondering if people can handle it here.

Does anyone do Liscio or Yuko in this country???

If I don't get any responses, I may try this Hajira person people have recommended (in old posts). I'll let you guys know how it goes.

There is one on the Queen's Road, Sheung Wan. He is very good. PM me your email address if you are interested and I will send you his details later, as his card is at home.

OK, I finally did it this weekend. I went to "bcos hair" at causeway bay. They have a website, if you want to check it out. The guy (owner) was fabulous! He spoke great english, and totally took the time that my hair needed. I paid $780 for the Japanese straightening (he used Plia brand). My hair started out like Shakira, and now it's pin straight, silky, and shiny!

The search was difficult, as no one speaks English! I didn't want a fancy salon, where you'd pay an arm and a leg, so I hit up every salon I passed. It's easy to find places that charge $300-$500, but I soon realized that those prices weren't for the Japanese straightening, just cheaper relaxers. So then I started noticing $700-$900 is a good affordable range for the good stuff. The one problem I noticed, that the hairdressers weren't taking the time to look at my hair and evaluate it, and then they seemed like they were going to rush the process. So I say, this process can be done anywhere, just make sure they use the Japanese stuff (probably anything Japanese), and make sure they're going to take time on your hair.

    Hope this helps!

    Emmanuel F

This isn't a recommendation for the original poster because this hairdresser is in central and quite pricey, but they were so good I wanted to share it in case anyone else is looking for ideas! I was having problems finding someone in HK to deal with my troublesome European hair.
I had a really good haircut from Emmanuel F at the Nexxus building in Central. The cut was by a director grade stylist called Severine who really knew what she was doing- my best ever- enough to warrant me sitting down to write this post (and I don't have shares/ friends in the company!). The organic hair colorants are noticeably glossier than usual products. Worth a try if you don't mind spending a bit and need a really good cut/ colour.

    Hi,

As everyone else before me, I have been searching this forum for recommendations for good hair salon where I can get my hair straightened. I am Indian and have thick, slightly wavy hair. I have been to 4-5 different salons in central and they all quoted crazy high prices HK$2000 for straigtening + technician fee (must pay!) + blow dry + hair cut. All in would have been HK$3000++. Can anyone recommend a high quality place anywhere in HK / Kowloon islands? I prefer to have bio-ionic straigtening. There have to be more options than paying HK$3,000++? Please advise!

Have you try the Private I Salon at the IFC? Most of their hairdresser can speak English and they also have a Japanese hairdresser there too!

Sigh, i'm not the only one having hair problems in HK!

I went to Hairdo in CB for a cut and a perm, they took all the time and helped me achieve what I was looking for....BUT that lasted only until i washed my hair...all my perm was in a mess and I looked like a hobo! So I went back to them again with my dissatisfaction and they said my hair quality wasn't good, hence the perm dint last! I dint take anymore excuses from them and demanded my money back! They restored my hair from perm to straight again that day and i got my money back. PHEW!

But it doesn't end there, now after such a horrid experience I'm looking out again for a decent place to get a good-looking haircut for once and at the same time not break my bank! Googled for hours and have a list to choose from, would appreciate if anyone can help me choose a good one or suggest a totally worth it place to go to!

Options: Toni & guy, Salon Espirit, Paul gerrard, Emmanual F?
