indian restaurants in central, causeway bay and TST?

hello, my first post here
so glad i found this forum
anyways i have been crazy about indian food lately but am having trouble deciding which one to try
i've tried the lunch buffet at tandoor (which was excellent btw, why don't i see anyone recommending it?), bombay dreams (excellent as well), greenlands india club (it was alright, so-so), and mama's india restaurant in quarry bay (not bad at all)
i know there are a lot of indian restaurants in the central area and i'm looking to try them out anyone with recommendations?
how is india today? there wasn't much left in the buffet when i got there but it was pretty early and there were only two person eating, are they serving leftovers? are all buffets just left overs?
what about jashan? or gunga din's? (has anyone ever tried gunga din's? they're always so empty), gunga din looks good but i've never seen any customer in there
or would i be better off finding indian food at the chung king mansion in TST? or afgan canteen near the Chung King or even at the aladdin mess in causeway bay? who has the best tandoori chicken, chicken tikka and paneer burji?

Gaylord's on Ashley is really tasty though you might consider it a bit pricey if you're looking around places in the CK Mansions. Gaylord's does have atmosphere, live music, and the place is very very clean. It's the kind of place I wouldn't be ashamed to take a date to: cozy and nice.

Interestingly, I saw only a handful of Asians there. In general, do Asians dislike (or are not so crazy about) Indian food or are people too busy chowing down at Fat Angelo's up the street? (Awesome meatballs there...I could make a meal out of them.)

Well... Couple of good ones in those areas such as 'Vedas', 'Moghul', 'Tandoor' in Central... Viceroy is also good one in Wanchai. U may also consider 'Bombay Dreams' in TST & Wanchai. I think Surya is also quite good in TST as far as food taste and quality are concerned, though location is a bit awkward.

Does anyone know of any place where they have home made style Indian food? Home made vegetarian or non vegetarian with home made style chapatis and stuff?

Nivant, Veda does not serve traditional Indian food. Its some fusion crap put together to appeal to westerners. I personally do not think I can go back to a place that serves "pan flavoured ice cream", sorry.

Hahaha, really!!!.. That reminds me of one shop in India used to sell Lemon, Ginger and even Chilli and garlic flavoured ice-creams. The idea was little successful but he used to come up with fancy things even vegetable flavoured ice-cream like Lady finger Ice cream... hahaha..

I have been going to CK Mansions for authentic Indian. I agree it's not a place to take the squeemish. However the food is excellent. Just ask anybody for Shari....he has a few stalls and a "club" on the third floor. Cheap plastic tableclothes large beer at 18 dollars and the best indian food.
He has invited me into the kitchen many times an showed me how to make naan roti etc. ( I love to cook at home). Apart fom that Tung Chung Ferry pier has good indian and the hippo bar in silvermine bay ha s now been converted to Thai/Indian.

Viceroy in Sun Hung Kai Centre, Wanchai. It's under the same group as Gaylord's but definitely has better quality, although more pricey...good for a nice, quiet indian dinner. i heard they just renovated their balcony, too. speaking of that, i should pay a visit soon...anybody interested?

Oh yeah, the Indian restaurant in the back-corner of Chung King Mansions is the best. I've had authentic indian food back in Montreal, Canada, and this stuff hits the spot. Great service, excellent food. Even for those unfamiliar with Indian food.

They're very humble about the food too.

I think it's on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui.

indian food in montreal? well i don't know about montreal but when i was back in toronto last summer and i tried to look for a good place that serves authentic indian food. surprisingly in such a multi-cultural city food at most indian places i went to were to a certain extent westernised. perhaps i just kept going to the wrong ones...i think hong kong offers a better and wider selection of indian restaurants, there are the more down-to-earth ones and then there are the more formal ones...
