Maybe they just don't like you. I use USD and have no problems. The DF shops even have the price tags in USD and Euro in my memory. AS roubles are not internationally tradeable it seems only logical and you even get change in the same currency in my memory. Unless its changed in the last few months, which I doubt.
I wasn't looking for Duty Free rubbish, I was looking for a bite to eat and something to drink. And for that, you can only use roubles. The airport staff helpfully told me I should have brought roubles to Russia. It was a stopover FFS.

I did bring my own food for the flight (knowing Aeroflot's would be crap) but thought I'd get some food and drink in the airport.
