Let's say they change policies now and then.

Some years ago they didn't accept British Passports for daytrips.

Having a visa beforehand doesn't always help - a German friend had her visa stamped "INVALID" and offered a new one on the spot - for a fee - or face arrest for illegal entry.

My gf's grandma is coming to HK on Friday, and she wants to go to China on Monday. However, she has a Canadian passport, with no visa. We're guessing that we could go to CTS on Saturday and order a rush visa and pick it up Monday morning... but if she can just get it at the border, that would be fine. Can anyone totally confirm this to be true?

Canadian passports have no problems getting the visa on arrival at the border (Lo Wu).... however, that visa at Lo Wu is a special one JUST for staying within Shenzhen/Lo WU. Your temporary visa cannot allow you to take a train to Guangzhou, or fly to Beijing. It's doable, but if they catch you... you' re in big trouble.

So if you're planning just for a day trip to Lo Wu Commerical center for some shopping there, then the visa on arrival is perfect.

It is good for 5 days, and it usually takes no more than 10-15 minutes wait time.

Big trouble?? As in you need to spend a few hundred dollars to tell the police they didn't see you?
