Air Asia moving to Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

Just a heads up really. From 1 October, Air Asia in Thailand is shifting its entire (that means both domestic and international) operations to the old Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok.

Not really, they probably got a decent deal for moving over there. Also the new airport is seriously congested, so they were having lots of delays.

I think the idea is that a bunch more budget airlines will move over to DMK.

I do find them still to be quite competitive compared to other airlines, but yes, you do have to shop around, they are no longer the cheapest all the time.

Sounds like a considerable PITA if you are taking a local flight then need to transfer over to the main International terminal. Will extend your journey time by several hours, and leave you at the mercy of the taxi wolves who must be licking their lips at this prospect.

That is very true, but Air Asia have always sold themselves as a point to point airline rather than a feeder airline.

Obviously they will be able to connect you through to another Air Asia flight....

At present no public transport at DMK, so that part sucks. Hopefully the Thais sort it out so they have a regular shuttle bus arrangement between DMK and BKK.....

There used to be airport buses from DMK to the centre (maybe they'll start again?), and there is still the old train station that connects it to Hua Lamphong station in the center of Bangkok (but poor schedule).

I wouldn't use Air Asia if I needed to make a tight connection, so it is not such a big deal for me. Usually I'll stay a couple of days in Bangkok before moving on.
