German community in HK?

Hello all,

we're moving from Germany to HK this coming August. Getting excited

Was just wondering whether there are any Germans here? Wuerde mich freuen euch kennen zu lernen.

I'm originally not from Germany, however since I've been living here for the last 6 years, it has become my second home. So would be nice to get to know some Germans too when I get to HK. To dream together about Volksfeste, Biergarten, Bratwurst, TV Total, Gute Zeiten Schlechte Zeiten, etc.!

I spend way too much time in a local german bar call Schnubarrts. Have consumed enough Erdinger to last a lifetime.

The germans are well networked here .. you'll not a problem once you get here.

Thanks for the reply. Hey, what about Paulaner Cafe? Do they have one in HK too? Used to go to one in Singapore when we lived there. Very nice typical german beer garden in the heart of the metropole. Schnubarrts .. hm, OK, I took note on this one!

KIA, there is a new bar in Wan Chai, close to Klong bar... they serve freshly draughted EDELWEISS white beer. Even though I m a German I have to say Edelweiss is damn good... :-)

I noted this thread as my husband is German. We will arrive in HK this summer. I've already found the German Chamber of Commerce & Industry site in HK as well as the language centre (Goethe). Any clubs or other German social type organizations anyone know of? Much appreciated!

There's a German gathering (called Man Spricht Deutsch) every 2nd Tuesday of each month at Weinstube (bar & restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui). I was there last month and met some nice people. Most of them are from Germany, some from Switzerland, and a couple of locals who have been taking german classes at Goethe Institute. A lot of them have been living in HK for a few years.

Have you tried the German Speaking Ladie's Group ?

They meet up every week and have great activities you can take place at.
From mahjong to the 'pearl market and dragon boat races, there's everything for everyone.
They also meet up every first Friday of the month at the German restaurant 'King Ludwig' in Stanley and will have dinner and a beer.

I am female, from Shanghai. I have stayed in HK for two years and worked in a US but HK location company, business development manager.

Some of my German friends who are now location in China can speak Mandarin very well which surprise me a lot. And VW is one of important clients for my company. I decide to learn German, hope not too late to learn a new language now……I want to find a German native speaker to exchange language, I speak Mandarin, shanghaiese and a little bit Cantonese, and I know Chinese culture, business very well.

Halihallo!!

Could anyone advise my friends and I on German Bars in HK? We would love to watch Germany Vs Sweden tomorrow in a place with other German & Swedish people.. just to get the feeling you know!!
