question on probation

My sister-in-law was in her job for 5 months (Her company has a 6 month probationary period). Her supervisor told her (quite firmly) that she would not be kept on after probation and told her to resign herslf. He told her she would be "better off" than not being renewed. I am wondering "better than what"? Better than the company saying she is not being kept on? I would have thought she should hang on and let the company end the contract. At least she could explain that the company was suffering downturn same old etc

I'm confused, she had a 6 month contract or 6 month probation. If it was probation (just idle speculation here)... but I imagine they mean it looks better on her resume to have quit then to be listed as terminated?

That would really depend on the reason the contract is not being confirmed - is it cost cutting or a performance issue?
If she resigns, she can tell prospective employers why whereas if she is being let go, people may wonder why. When other prospective employers call to confirm details of previous employment, they usually ask if the person was let go or if it was voluntary resignation, and whether we would consider hiring that employee again. Needless to say, the two stories should match.
She should probably take a closer look at her contract as well; there may be a difference in remuneration if she is being let go or if she resigns.

she said there was not enough work around and the more senior colleagues were getting the work (for obvious reasons). what shud she do weighing in this pc of fact?
