Tuen Mun - Gold Coast

Anyone familiar with the Gold Coast apartments in Tuen Mun? Looking for family friendly apartment with lots of amenities - gym, swimming pool, big playground, etc. Have a 2 1/2 year old boy who loves to play outside. Also, are there many expats in this community? What services are available, i.e., grocery store, retail shops, etc. Any pre-schools?

We went apartment hunting in March and focused primarily on HK Island and are most interested in Parkview and Bel Air.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

There are many tourists/expats around that area and also quite a number of expats/foreigners work at Crossroads which is just around the corner of the main road.
Quite a nice place to live I would imagine, there are shopping centres around, and only 10 mins from Tuen Mun town plaza.

It is almost a year that I live there and I would say it is quite good.
You have all the necessary things around (walking distance: Restaurants/bars/Supermarkets/Buses/Taxis...and if you need more 10 minutes of minibus and you are in the center of Tuen Mun.
Facilities are good: swimming pool, tennis, squash,....
Appartments are quite nice with usually nice view.
Transportation is OK. About 35/45 minutes to central depending on traffic and same for TST. Buses and Minibuses are 24H so no worry. If you need more info, PM me.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like a longer commute to Central than what we were hoping for. Will still check it out though.

Unfortunately living in Tuen Mun and working is central is not an ideal commute because the traffic flow in rush hour is pretty bad. I go the other way and it is a 35-40 minute drive so for you it will be longer. The bus service is good though in that it leaves from right outside the Gold Coast and goes all the way through the bottom of central to Causeway Bay and is really regular and runs pretty late. The train will take you 45 mins Tuen Mun/Central plus about 7mins taxi to get to the Tuen Mun station from the Gold Coast.

I live in Gold Coast Phase 2 and have 2 children (ages 3 and 1.5) and my wife stays at home. It is family friendly. It is quiet and safe. There are play groups on site and the swimming pool is great, especially for the little ones. Restraunts and shops are within walking distance. There are international schools in Tuen Mun, Tai Tam, and I think Siu Lam. They are all within 10 minutes. There are lots of expats and those that are not speak English.

As far as the commute central, there are two good options. 962 bus takes about 35-45 minutes depending on traffic and cost 18 HKD. That bus runs on about 12- 15 minute intervals, so if a bus leaves 1 or 2 minutes before you get to the bus stop you have to wait a while for the next one. There is also a residence only shuttle bus that goes to Central. It is on a time schedule, so it eliminates idle waiting time at a bus stop. It is a little quicker than 962 since it does not make stops to pick up other passengers.

I have a friend that also lives in the Gold Coast and he works in Central. He looked at moving to reduce his commute time, but he found that the commute was worth it because he felt he could have better quality of life for him and his family than we would get living closer to work.

I commute daily from Gold coast to Central and it is just fine. with the shuttle bus it is 30/35 minutes and with 962 around 45 minutes. Might seems a bit long but you really enjoy the place during week end...

My wife and I are looking at moving to HK early next year,and have 'taken a shine' to the Gold Coast dvlpt.

Can anyone provide me with any information regarding the Maisonettes/Beach Houses versus apartments? Specifically costs/furnishings ... any info at all really.

I dont think the commute would be an issue, as the position I am looking at is in Kowloon Tong ... any info re travel to KT would be very helpful.

the houses start at 38.000 a month if I am not worng. appartments are cheaper. u can check on their website normally

Make sure you don't commit yourself without coming here first. I thought the Gold Coast looked ideal but when I got here I preferred the city and found the websites and photos of the Gold Coast to be a little misleading but that is just my opinion.
