    Thai Groceries

    Hi,

I absolutely love Thai food and would love to learn to cook it but I don't know where to buy authentic Thai ingredients (like red curry paste, lemon grass, galangal etc.) all under one roof. I know some big supermarkets like Great & 360 sell a few things but I don't find them very authentic.

Does any one know a smaller Thai specialty food store on HK Island? In exchange, I can tell you where to buy Indian food if you're interested

    Thanks!

    Chloe

There are Thai stores in the wet markets. I've seen a couple in Wanchai market that sell fresh lemon grass and other ingredients

I'm told that the best place to buy reasonably priced Thai ingredients in HK are the shops in Kowloon City, near Kowloon City plaza. There's also a wet market there.

Other option of course is to stock up whenever you go to Bangkok

Wife used to get supplies from few places.

Near Times Square (can't remember the name of the Rd but where the Stanley minibus queue is) there's a few Thai Grocery stores.
They also do real thai food in large pots out the back for the more adventurous (personally like the food we get in nice restaurants but wife and friends consider it altered for non-thai tastes...)

She also used a place on Marsh Rd that was basically little more than a hole in the wall.

Other places were a street vendor in Wanchai - sweet old lady who pushes a cart around Lockhart Rd, no clue when she's there though and possibly Thai Hut next to Ebenezzers on Luard Rd in Wnachai - does more pre-prepared food but think thay sell some groceries as well.

If you're in the Tseun Kwan O area, I know a good place.. otherwise you're probably better off going to a wet market close to where you are.

But if you're in TKO let me know and I'll tell you the details

I'd like to know. I usually trudge out all the way to Kowloon City for Thai groceries.

believe it or not, i just stumble on this thread cos I am in desperate need to source for thai ingredients to make yummy green curry and I live in Tseung Kwan O. Please please please can I have the address of the great thai shop mentioned, lowlight ????? Goodfood, I am near kowloon city - can I have your addresses too? I didn't recall seeing any thai shops in that area.

BTW what I want is fresh bamboo shoots, pea-variety eggplant, and small rounded eggplant, as well as lemongrass, kaffir leaves, mint leaves etc...basically all fresh ingredients needed in green curry.

    Many thanks!!

If you can make it out to Kowloon City, this is what you are after.

    CHEONG THAI SUPERMARKET
G/F., 25-29 Kai Tak Road, Kowloon City,

It is fantastic. I've made many a great meal from their fresh ingredients. I wish it was closer to where I live!
