Product of their gumtree purchase. Looks like the local classifieds scene just got a little bit more interesting.

their search capabilities are useless though

I tried searching for a hi8 camcorder and the search returned every item available!
    definitely still in beta!

Nearly three years later, it appears ebay HK in English hasn't improved. Couldn't find a single item in multiple searches.

    ebay english is basically non-functional.

Although still listed as 'Beta' after 3 years, ongoing ineptitude by the local management has managed to kill off any possibililty of a viable local business in english.

eBay should just give up and shut it down - or get new management.

Thanks for the info. Any chance there is an alternative auction site to serve the HK market. A site in English?

Just use the US site and set the location as "Hong Kong" if you want to see items listed locally. Unfortunately, very often sellers in China list their locaton as Hong Kong because they use third party shipping services based here.

The yahoo auctions website is still the most widely used in HK...

I know it's all in chinese, but can't you get google chrome to translate the page?
