Digital printing vs Heat Transfer for a Football Jersey

Hi all, I'm looking to buy for a friend an Official Football Jersey for their birthday as a surprise and I was wondering which of these two would be better in the long run, as I understand, both are not good in the washing machine from research online, but which one would last longer? Any personal experiences? Many thanks.

If it is official then the choice is no longer yours as the jersey will comes as is. If you are making your own then a process called dye sublimation is very nice I've heard.
