just follow the mainlanders with the suitcases.
Those medicine shops are every where - you can often see piles of toilet paper/kitchen towel stacked up, displays of dried mushrooms etc....and a funny smell of home brewed medicine might pass by as well.
They are bacically small convienient stores - and yes stuff like toilet paper, kitchen towel, shampoo, diapers etc is normally cheaper here.
Take a 5 minute walk around Mong Kok and you will find one I am sure.
you might save a few dollars here and there but then again you could be getting boot-legged stuff or "rubbed off" expired items. Is that really worth the risk for your child...?
Buy in bulk to save, buy from supermarkets to save, buy online to save, get discount cards...
I always find a 20-30 hkd per package of diapers to save - more than happy to go the shop next door to get this reward.
Never had the need for baby food so cannot comment for that
i doubt mong kok is cheapest given its mainland-shopping heaven! better to go to a more local neighbourhood in kowloon - anywhere past Cheung Sha Wan on the Red line towards Tsuen Wan and just go to Wellcome or ParkNShop
Did NONE of you read the thread about supermarkets here? They are NOT the cheapest place to buy anything. They are an oligopoly and for cheaper goods, go to the smaller neighborhood stores. I have never heard anything negative about quality in the small stores, i think some scaremongering might be going on in some posts above.
Obviously, supermarkets are much more convenient. But that's all.
The pharmacies tend to be cheaper than either Welcome or Park n Shop for toiletries, Diapers and Milk Powder. For baby food, the only bought food we tend to get is baby biscuits, and Mannnings tends to be cheaper than the super markets for them.
My wife used to alternate buying Milk Powder between the local Rx and Mannings as they were similar in price.
In Mongkok you may with to avoid the main tourist trap places as they probably hike the prices for the Mainland bulk buyers.
