Help Please - visitors to HK

hi everyone,
have some visitors to HK and they want to know where to go shopping. they are coming from the US, so would be interested in bargain shopping and curios (i.e., IFC and Pacific Place are not what they are looking for).

any groups of shops/places that have clothing samples and discounts, especially for US Size 10 and above?

i do plan on going to Stanley Market, but any other suggestions? is Fa Yuen St. worth a visit?

Yes Fa Yuen st is always worth visiting, however go during the week and after 1 p.m as thats the best time as its not as crowded as on a weekend.

Stanley Market is o.k but its mainly full of tourist souvenirs and not really any outlets.

Was going to send you a msg. Yes, Fa Yuen St is worth a visit, weekdays are better. You can also take them to Wanchai Tai Yuen Street opposite Hopewell Centre.

Other than Disneyland, take them to Ocean Park and also Cafe Deco on the Peak has painting thingy for kids.

Hope they have a good visit.

The famous lanes - Li Yuen St East and West between Queens Rd Central and Des Voeux Rd (close at 7 or 7-30pm).

Speaking of "clothing samples", there are all those outlets with "Sample" in their name on the north side of Johnston Rd between Fenwick St and Luard Rd, continuing along the latter up to Hennessy Rd. Driven by, intrigued, umpteen times but never stopped to check them out - look like they must be competitive. Anyone with experience care to chip in?

There's definitely some bargains to be found in the areas mentioned above - now all you have to do is hunt. I've developed a keen eye for a bargain 0_o

If we need to do something on a weekend (Saturday), is it better to:
- go to Stanley Market
- go to Macau
- go shopping at Fa Yuen St.

I hate going out on a weekend, especially next weekend which is a holiday, but I have no choice. Where can I take them without wanting to throttle someone (myself, my friends or other people)?

Stanley and Fa Yuen will keep them entertained for a few hours... Macau is a good day trip.

Also if I do not join a Macau tour, are there maps at the ferry pier, and is it easy to just walk around and see the sights? Any suggested lunch and dinner places?

if u are going this weekend, MUST get tickets ahead of time (return tix). u can always change to earlier ship if there's space (wait in the stand-by line) but don't think u can get the tix at the counter to leave right away. better to get seats for later ship & change to earlier one when you arrive at the terminal. there's maps at the teminal in Macau.

for shopping, can also check out Granville Rd / Cameron Rd in TST.

Macau is a really easy city to get by. Most of it can be done by foot. Taxi is cheap and convenient.

See sights are mainly:
- Leal Senado
- Saint Paul's Ruins
- A Ma Temple and Kun Iam temple
- Casinos (I would suggest 2: Lisboa and Sands as they are proof of 2 very different aspects of Macau)
- Fisherman's Wharf.

If you have time take a look at Taipa old portuguese Village as well as Coloane Island. Very laid back

For Food you could try Portuguese:
- Alfonso III in Leal Senado
- A Lorcha or Littoral near A Ma temple
- O manel in Taipa or Fernando in Coloane

Otherwise plenty of chinese (Dim Sum...very cheap by HK standard) restaurant. Few italians, french...

For the Jet Foil tickets, you can by them direclty at the pier. (~150/170HKD per person one way)
