    Overnight Backpacking

    Hi all,

I have been doing the hiking trails on HK Island - very fun. Was wondering if there were areas in the New Territories were you can do hikes with overnight camping = I've done the vermont long trail and sections of the applachian trail - im a very experienced hiker/backpacker.

Ideally I'd like a trail where you can hike and have 2 overnight stops about 10-15 miles apart - can be extremely primitive - just want it to be legal.

    Any ideas?

All the legal campsites in the Country Parks are listed here:

Many of the campsites are only reachable on foot, but given your experience you might find them a little "tame". In that case, I suggest you might be better off going wild camping - strictly it's illegal, but so long as you leave no trace I don't think there would be a problem. I've seen people wild camping occasionally high on Lantau.

    Backpacking

The best is to take the countryside Series map (order via internet, cheaper and easy) where u can figure out where to sleep. Tell me ur plan, and if u look for partner. I have less training now but I have done some races (like Reunion Island : 130kms) and I'm interessed by doing some overnight trails with few hours sleep and really light back pack. But is it really what u R looking for ? Anyone interessed ?

    thanks

    Thanks,

Well certainly willing to make camp where I can but actually not too worrid about 'tameness' - I have really low expectations for that here given population density etc and just want a place to try out gear - I am a gear and freak I just like walking someplace, setting up a (2.5 lb/titanium staked zoid 1.5 ) tent and camping out.

Regarding the race aspect - I never hurry when I backpack but I WOULD be up for doing adventure triathalons if you are interested in that.
