    Red face rock climbing beginner

    dear all,
i'm a beginner for rock climbing. I would like to find some buddies who can go for rock climbing together. I'm still very green in climbing and clumsy i guess, so i think i have to go for climbing gym before a real climb. I haven't tired lead climbing yet..
hope to hear from anyone who's interested...
    cheers, k

hi. glad to have a reply from you!
I've checked with the YMCA indoor and outdoor climbing gym.
Apparently the summer course will be finished within this weeks, then it would be less crowded in day time for both centers, due to the terrible weather, I'd rather prefer indoor gym. do you have time in weekdays daytime, we could fix a day and go. Or we can share an instructor to guide us.

I'd be interested in joining in some of your climbs. I've done some climbing years ago... but it's been a long time. I know there's quite a few climbing areas in HK but have no idea where to start...
let me know when u go indoors and definitely if you make it outside.

    PM me anytime!

Hiyas. Glad to see more people getting into climbing. Though I don't live in Hong Kong I can provide you with some details as I was there during summer.

is a good site for info on climbing in hong kong.

if your looking for a bouldering wall i'd recommend Go Nature. http://www.gonaturehk.com/center.htm
Its quite big, offers loads of routes and got friendly members there. Since you will al be ne, bouldering would proberly be the best for you lot, as it will allo you to climb at your own pace and you can have a break while someone else keeps climbing. only downside is that their routes are not to hard but if you like you can rainbow everything (use everyhold) and make it hard for yourself by picking which holds to use and what not to use, like people at my wall in UK, befor starting their routes.

Also as your new you should buy a pair of shoes and chalkbag as a minimum. chalk bag is pretty simple, its a bag that contains chalk, either loose or in a ball so you only need to squeeze it. The purpose of the chalk is to dry your hands from sweat so your hand wont slip off. essential in Hong Kong where its like a sauna everyday.

Shoes is more complicated as climbing shoes is not like normal shoes. I would recommend you ask for assissance at a shop and read some indept guides on how to buy them. But in short, You want a pair thats comfortable butwill keep your toes curved. put your hands like a claw and youll get what I mean curved. This will allow you to stand on footholds easier otherwised you'll just keep falling off them. But do remember to keep them comfortable. Also every pair's fitting is different. Some have wider heels, toes, etc. so do try alot of pairs and get the perfect fit otherwise youll end up in pain which is no fun.

is the best shop in hong kong for all your mountaineering/climbing gear so I would recommend going into them for your climbing needs.

If you need anymore details PM me =D
