Renting House - Brita Water Jug or Tap Water Filter?

Just about to move into an oldish village house in Sai Kung and was wondering what people's opinions are on drinking water options.

The place comes with one of those water ice tower things that you buy the huge water containers for, but I was wondering if that was neccessary?

My only big issue with HK water is the taste, there's no escaping it for me, it just tastes like a swimming pool, would a simple Brita water filter jug (used this back in the UK) help with that or should we pay the extra cost and fit a reasonable water filter system direct to the tap?

This isn't a 'how safe is the water' thread, its what is the best way for me to make it taste nicer.

Boil the water, add a slice of lemon, refridgerate. It works for me.

Thanks for that, I slightly suspect that in the long run a filter of some kind might be less of a faff, but I like your no-nonsense thinking.

Anyone else actually tried the filter jug or tap filters?

if you're vigilant about changing filters as recommended or more frequently, tap mounted should do the trick...i use one and have no issues with taste (your results may vary). actually we used to tap-filter the water into a brita, but found that remembering to change two sets of filters became more of a hassle...

If you search the topic of "drinking water" in these forums you'll find find the largest possible range of opinions and available options, with an equally large range on the politeness -> verbal violence scale

try reading Zellner, Stewart, Rozin, & Brown, 1988 and just buy a jug and put in in the fridge.

Probably the biggest taste difference between tap water and filtered water in the fridge is the perception due to temperature difference. If I buy bottled water from a newspaper hawker it really does seem to taste of plastic as it has been sat in the sun all day!

I agree with fay1221; do both is safer. Or at the very least boil
