    Question Take the Aussie out of Australia and the least likely ocker becomes true blue

    The subject and the quote below come from :

    /*
    Expatriates have always disgusted me. The unquenchable thirst for exploration, the smug, semi-annual skip back to Australia for "welcome home" drinks in the shadow of the Opera House, the persistent reminders of what a "great place to raise kids" Sydney is: abhorrent, all abhorrent.

    Thoughts?

    If you take it seriously it's rubbish but as a atempt at a satirical piece, it's mildly amusing. I don't think it's particularly well written.

    I thought it was very badly written and I struggled to get through the whole article...

    I was scanning the piece and scrolling down when this
    appeared in the right-hand column.

    I got distracted. What was the article about again?

    I think it was intended as satire, but as many have pointed out, it wasn't particularly well written. My impression (if indeed it is satire) was that it was a bunch of anecdotes and thoughts from over a period of time hastily stitched together.
    However, if you do take it seriously, I think there are certain elements which are true. The thing to keep in mind though, is that the 'nature of the expat' is quite similar through different communities (and not just the Aussie expat circle)
