Can a housewife sponsor a dependent visa??

hi all i am new here, i read alot and its a very nice forums.

I am a HK hk permanent resident, having Right of abode in HK, study and work in US for 7 years. My finance (malaysia chinese) has been working in US for 4 years aslo. We plan to marry and move to HK within short time (< 3 months).

Here is my problem, in order for my bf to obtain his HKID (for working purpose), I need to be his sponsor for the dependent visa application. But since I plan to be a housewife after marry, how can I provide
    "(ii) evidence of the sponsor's financial standing;
(iii) evidence of the applicant's financial standing;" ??

I am SW developer and he is a sourcing manager at this time. We're in the 20's and doesn't have lots of saving (but reasonable), but I am sure we can get a job offers shortly.

    1) Can I skip the dependent visa prcoess, instead, go stright to the HKID application after our marriage took place?
    2) If I must apply for the dependent visa first, what's the defination for "evidence of the sponsor's/applicant's financial standing;", would there be a certain standard for salary/saving? Will past (US) pay stub, tax return, saving account be enough?
    3) Is it possible/necessary for him to enter HK in visitor visa, then change status to dependent visa in order to start the HKID application process?
    4) Do I HAVE TO be employed to be a sponsor? Because I hear case would be different for the wife as sponsor than the husband.

    Thanks alot

P.S. I already email to the enquiry@immd.gov.hk, but the reply is not helpful.

To sponsor someone as a dependant you have to be married.

If you're a HK PR, the dependant's visa is usually granted unless immigration suspects the marriage is fraudulent (very very rare for them to do this...).

Indeed - just look at all the Filipinos waiting/bar-tending in the bars and restauarants of LKF etc. Many of them apparently have sham marriages to local PRs without any problem, so you'll be fine.

Talking thanks for your helpful information, and one more classic question

thanks for all your helpful reply, just want to add one more classic question:

    1) would it be better off for us to get marry in US than in hk since I take less time in here (one day trip in Vegas), so he can apply for his dependant visa/HKID directly?
Seems like the marriage process would take long than a month.
    2) Most import, with our US marriage certificate, can he SKIP or apply for the dependant visa and HKID at the same time? Anyone done this before?

    Thanks alot

HKID is a formality. The important thing is the visa. You need to apply for the HKID AFTER the visa has been granted and you've arrived in HK.
