Chance of getting employment (and thus a work permit)

I?ve been reading up on the threads on the forum and really starting to hesitate about the possibility of locally getting a job (and work permit). In my case the ?Local job application/searching? or ?on spec? situation would apply. Since I?m planning to go for a maximum period of 1 year a work permit (Visa) would be necessary. I got a bachelor degree in facility management and 5 years of relevant (full-time) job experience. I?m not picky at all of the work field or job position as long as I can financially get around and get a work permit.

Are there any people here that can share some experience or insights acquiring a ?on spec? job (and work permit ofcourse..)?
(is it really that difficult? Should I be worried of not getting a job? )

Thanks for the replies in advance!

Doing a TEFL course and teaching English is usually the standard issue answer, but from reading your post I'm guessing you're not a native English speaker so I don't know how easy that would be

Tnx for the reply johnyc! Considered that option but you guessed right.. I'm not a native English speaker, next to that in most adds English native speakers are preferred so my guess is chances are slim although not sure of that of course...

    Hi Dutchy

I am sharing quite the same dilemma as you are. I am looking for opportunities in Hong Kong too. I am currently in the construction industry for factories (electronic industry). I think the experience that I had gained is not relevent to the requirements in Hong Kong.
Even bringing down the expectation by going for assistant engineering position won't really help.
I am thinking of changing fields. Teaching english is a good solution, yet again the native tongue is a barrier.
Maybe you can look into merchandizing... like bring local items from your country to be traded in Hong Kong.... just a suggestion. I am also looking into this possibility.
