Question Living here already, sorting Dependent Visa

    Hey,
I wouldn't be at all surprised if this has been covered, but I'll be darned if I can find it :P

My HKID wife just moved from UK to HK and already has a job and accommodation here. I followed some weeks later after selling our house in UK. Now in HK too, living together and I'm applying for the dependent visa WHILE IN HK.

I've been told I need to be out of the country on the day I submit the application, such as spending a weekend in Macau. How do I prove I am out of the country on that date? And do I need to post it from Macau? Is it just that I need a date stamp on my UK passport that correlates with the date on the id(e)936 form?

Please help, I'm quite confused on how I'm supposed to prove I was out of the country!

    Lastly, HK ROCKS!

the stamp on your passport itself, and the immigration record.

immigration can find out if you're in hk or not by that time. they have records in their computer for every person coming in and going out of hk.

Thanks prettynvain. So you are saying that I could simply post the documents off Friday, go to Macau for the weekend returning to HK Monday and await the reply from Immigration?

but as far as i know, it's better that when they are processing you're dependant visa, better if you're not in hk for that period..

Nope, its fine to be in HK while they are processing a dependent or any other visa, as long as you aren't violating the terms of your visitor visa.

I thought you just need to leave HK to activate the visa, not apply for it

You do not have to be out of HK to apply for your DV.

Whether or not you leave during processing is up to you and perhaps dictated by the length of time left on your visitor stamp - easily solved by a day trip to Macau.

Given that you are married to a Perm HKID holder, I wouldn't expect your application process to be longer than a couple of weeks (unless you haven't filled the form in properly).

Oh now it's making perfect sense! I would only need to leave the country IF I'm going to overstay my visit in HK during the application process! I've only been here 3 weeks so I'm fine then

Thank you so much for clearing this up!

FYI most of the time if you apply for a dependent visa in HK you will not need to leave even when approved. Work visas normally you need to leave for though.
