I hold HKID card, but fiance doesn't...

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone would be able to shed some light on this. I hold the HKID and have been offered a job in HK and will have no problems with working. My fiance does not hold the HKID but we will be married in October this year. My questions are:

    1. Is there such a thing as a De Facto visa? If so, how do you prove the existence of the relationship and would she be able to work full time? (This is so she can come before we get married and work full time if possible)

    2. Once we are married, does she automatically receive a dependent visa or something which allows her to work full time?

    3. What is the difference between a dependent visa and a working visa? What is best for my situation?

Willing to shout a beer when I get to HK!!!

    regards,

    NY

The jury is still out on dependants being allowed to work.

In either case, as things stand right now, dependants of non-permanent residents cannot work unless they're independantly sponsored by their employers.

    Ronaldinho,
As KIA said jury is still out on dependants issue and things are finalised.. Just a matter of time.. Recent announcement from a senior Govt officer is that all dependents should be able to work starting from Jun/ July..

Assuming you are a HK Permanent Resident then:

    1. No
    2. Yes
    3. For you neither. For your fiance if she wants to work (or even, formally, to reside here) before your marriage then she needs an Employment Visa. After your marriage she will have the Dependent Visa which gives her the right to work without any further paperwork.
