Where can I get insight into SAP Financial? My company doesn't use this kind of software,but I want to gain SAP experience,as it seems the most popular erp-product. SAP Academy courses seems so expernsive
Should I get SAP experience or Quickbooks & MYOB is enough? It seems all major corporations require SAP knowledge.

Aim for Peoplesoft and SAP exposure, thats the way to go. Personally I wouldn't bother with quicken and myob.

Order some books on amazon initially to get the basics and then update your c.v as having some exposure to Sap then try and target companies using SAP or will be migrating to SAP.

I know that the Big 4 accountancy firms have or will be migrating to SAP from peoplesoft so try and target those companies.

Just learning from books will not be useful.

To better understand the business processes you definitely need access to the System.

To be honest the money you earn as a Junior Consultant isn't that much!

It takes loads of hard-work and determination to learn SAP if you're not within a company which is using it already!!!

if you aren't using the system it is kind of useless. only thru hands on experience you can really learn.

If SAP academy is too expensive (ie if your company does not pay for you, which seems to be the case) then you best bet is only to browse thru general books and/or forums...

They used to held a SAP Summit in HK (at least until 2005..not sure since then as I changed my field and never attended again).
If they still do (you can check on their website) you may try to get their and meet people that are dealing with it on a day to day basis either as customer, project manager, developper, or consultant.

Depends....say for example most of the banks I know (not all of course) do not use SAP as their Financial tools..Oracle seems to be amore popular choice in terms of ERP.

However Utilities, Automotives, basically Industrial companies tend to like using SAP.

So I would say it depends accounting on which field/industry you are planning to focus

In a 1 - 2 yrs,I'm planning return to my home country (Russia) and join the oil&gas business - currently there're several big projects running,operated by the industry leaders: Shell,Exxon,Mitsui etc.
It seems,all the major players in that field require SAP!

Yes for that matter they are very much SAP oriented. As I said industrial companies tend to work with SAP (because the ERP is much better catered for their needs than say the banking industry)
