    Tim Cook is....

    Religious...?

I understand that understanding and being open with your sexuality can be very traumatic for some people, but a cynic might suggest that this publicity driven 'coming out' via the media for a person who has not hidden sexuality is more about marketing than helping people in a similar situation overcome societal stigmas. I could be wrong.

1st rule of US Marketing: don't upset the Christians

20 years ago, this might have been big news, but given the increasing and widespread acceptance of gays in US society, this isn't really anything special today. Yeah, there are still pockets of hardcore fundamentalist resistance to gays, especially in the deep south, but I highly doubt there would be any substanial loss to Apple's sales due to the fact their CEO is gay.

It could be worse, he could have come out as an atheist.

It's kind of weird that this is even news. The guy was accidentally outed on CNBC several months ago so it's not like it was a secret. Or that it should be a surprise to anyone who somehow was oblivious but is familiar with Apple corporate culture.

It's kind of a 'weird he wasn't out this whole time' news story, rather than an 'oh my god he's gay' story.
    Anderson Cooper similar deal.

    Not too much acceptance here.

Russia tears down Steve Jobs memorial after Apple CEO Tim Cook comes out as gay | South China Morning Post

Amazing in this day that this can be written

Russian lawmaker Vitaly Milonov, principle sponsor of the anti-gay bill, called for Cook to be banned from entering the country.

“What could he bring us? The Ebola virus, Aids, gonorrhea? They all have unseemly ties over there,” Milonov told the FlashNord website on Thursday. “Ban him for life.”

    It said in the article:

It was removed on Friday after current Apple CEO Tim Cook came out as gay.

It doesn't say that it was related.

See, after #OC it got noticeable cooler. It's not related either.

Who ever said Russia was normal? Anyway, demonising outsiders is an old an established trick for diverting attention at home.

Forgot the link to CNBC from 4 months ago. It's pretty funny.
