Last year when I went back to HKG, I just had enough time for the SAR passport. My next trip may go to China first then to HKG. It seems ironic that a legal Chinese citizen, having abode right in Chinese soil, holding a Chinese government issued passport, still requires visa to enter China.

Besides, China visa is not cheap.
My understanding is you CANNOT use your HKSAR passport to enter China, visa or not (I don't think you can obtain a China visa with an HKSAR passport in the first place). If you have a foreign passport, you may get a China visa with that passport to enter China.

I understand the irony. But it only occurs because you don't have the proper document (通行証) yet.
