    CNY gift for piano teacher?

Just wondering, should we take our children's piano teacher a gift this week for CNY (last lesson before the new year) or is it only meant to be between good friends and family members?

I feel like lai see is a bit formal and weird to give her, right? But would like to acknowledge the festival so thought to take a wrapped box of sweets/cookies, whatever.

    Would that be appropriate?

CNY gifts and lai see are given once the new year starts, not before.

Oh, it's that time of year again. If she's from here just forget about any non Chinese sentiments about gift giving and give MONEY IN A RED ENVELOPE. Everything else is second best to HK/Chinese people.

Second that. Just give her a red envelope and forget about the candy/gift.

I'm not playing this game either. You know, in my office I'm meant to give red packets to all the workers, well, as far as I can tell, I'm the hardest worker in this bloody building so they should give me money....also, I have two kids, why not cut the crap and just give me one red packet between them.

Stupid tradition! BTW, lots of my local friends have said they're getting a bit sick of it n'all!
