    Car ownership in Hong Kong

    Hello all,

Just wish to start researching on information relating to car ownership in Hong Kong. I know the public transport is very convenient just like (if not, better then) in Singapore and probably personal and family convenience is the only justification to own a car.

In Singapore, the Government has a very informative web site (http://www.onemotoring.com.sg). Is there a particular one in Hong Kong? Tried http://www.gov.hk but did not find much there (or probably I missed it).

    Cheers

    Gerald

    Gerald,

A better place to start any research (other than GeoExpat) is http://www.info.gov.hk/orgindex.htm

The transport department is on ( http://www.info.gov.hk/td/eng/text.html ) and their FAQs are on ( http://www.info.gov.hk/td/eng/servic...enu_index.html ).

Do keep in mind that their website deals mostly with licensing issues.

Cars can be very useful - if you own a car you will start asking questions when looking for somewhere to live like "Does it come with a parking space?" A lot of older apartment buildings include a car park with the flat. It is an expense but once you have one you will wonder how you lived without it - my big shopping trips to fill up the freezer mean it is a long time since I carried shopping bags down the street. I cannot imagine living in Hong Kong without a car now.
